Boutwell House in Groton

On October 9th, we visited the Boutwell Center in Groton (Massaschusetts). A guide told and showed us a lot about Groton's History and about the important people at this time. Here is some of the information for you:

In 1655 Deane Winthrop named the town Groton after his birthplace in England.
21 years later, the town was attacked during violent conflicts between colonists and native tribes and almost burned down completely. Only two years later the settlers returned and rebuilt the town. Groton was repeatedly attacked during the French-Indian War.
In 1848, the first passenger train came through Groton, but the train service ended about 100 years later, in 1934.

The Boutwell House, which is a museum today, was built in 1851 by George S. Boutwell. That same year George S. Boutwell became elected governor of Massaschusettsand.
There are photographs, books and maps of Groton's past, also completely furnished rooms where George S.Boutwell once lived in.

In 1909, Groton got electric light and the population reached up to 10,332 until 2003 and 11.364 in 2017.
