Differences between Germany and the USA

  • The United States are very very big.
  • Cell phones at school.
  •        In Germany we are not allowed to use our phones at school. Our teachers think that the use of phones distracts us in the lessons.
  • Probably they are right. :) But sometimes cell phones are simply useful to to look up things you don't know or just to listen to music during breaks.
    • School schedule.
In the U.S. you have the same schedule every day for one term. One school year consists of four terms, which makes about 3 months per term. After lessons most students stay in for school clubs. When at home, they still need to do some homework.

    • Classrooms.
In Germany teachers and students change rooms all the time. But here in America teachers normally stay in their rooms and students come to attend their lessons.

    • Tab water.
Like in Germany chlorine is added to the tab water here, but here in America they add much more than we do so that it changes the taste of it very much. We do not really like it. But if you are used to it, it might be okay for you. Chlorine kills bacteria and therefore prevents diseases.

    • Food
Food in America is very diverse and groceries like bread, milk or ice tea taste different to our ones. Don't expect the real American Burger to taste like the German version. Drinks here are generally sweeter. Mexican food seems to be quite popular here.

    • Sweets
So now we talk about the best parts of America: CANDY.
In Germany we have a lots of candy, but here they have lots more and different types.
Our personally favorite sweets of the U.S. are Sour Patches, Reeses and Nerds. Try them if you come here!!
In America they also have German or European candy like Haribo Original and Lindt chocolate.
Germany and America have sometimes the same candy but in America they have more flavours.

    • Halloween
As you may know Halloween is more popular in the US than in Germany. So when you go to a supermarket at Halloween time, you see a lot of Halloween candy and food. You can also buy already mixed candy in a bag so you don't have to buy them separate. Most people dress up for example as there idol or as a movie character. So Halloween in the U.S. means much fun!
